As an important standby and emergency power supply solution, the operating stability of diesel generator sets directly affects the reliability of power protection. However, during long-term operation, fuel system leakage may occur, which not only affects the normal operation of the generator set but may also create potential safety hazards. Therefore, timely detection and troubleshooting of fuel leakage are essential parts of diesel generator set maintenance.
YingTai Group has been dedicated to the R&D, manufacturing, and service of diesel generator sets for many years. Based on extensive project experience, YingTai summarizes the common causes of fuel pipe leakage and effective inspection methods to help users improve maintenance efficiency and ensure safe and stable operation of generator sets.
The fuel supply system of diesel generator sets usually uses flexible rubber hoses for connection. During operation, continuous vibration may cause the hoses to rub against surrounding components. Over time, the surface of the hoses may become worn, aged, or even damaged, resulting in fuel leakage.
In addition, sealing washers at fuel pipe joints can also become sources of leakage due to improper installation, deformation, aging, or damage after long-term use.
First, remove all air from the fuel system of the diesel generator set. Then start the generator and allow the fuel system to operate normally.
Inspect the fuel pipes and connection points carefully. The location where diesel fuel leakage or seepage appears can be identified as the leakage point.
This method is suitable for obvious fuel leakage problems and can quickly locate the faulty area.
If the leakage location is difficult to identify, loosen the air vent screw on the injection pump and use the manual fuel pump to supply fuel.
If a large amount of air bubbles are found in the fuel discharged from the vent screw, and the bubbles do not disappear after repeated pumping, it indicates that there may be a leakage point in the low-pressure fuel line between the fuel tank and the fuel transfer pump.
In this case, remove the suspected section of the fuel pipe, apply compressed air pressure, and place the pipe into water for inspection. The location where continuous bubbles appear is the leakage point.
Besides problems with the fuel pipes themselves, pipe joints are also common areas where fuel leakage occurs.
During maintenance inspections, attention should be paid to:
Whether the fuel pipe connections are properly tightened;
Whether sealing washers are installed correctly;
Whether washers show signs of aging, deformation, or damage;
Whether there are traces of fuel leakage around the joints.
Any damaged sealing components should be replaced promptly to prevent minor issues from affecting the operation of the generator set.
If the leakage point cannot be identified after performing the above inspections, further inspection should be carried out on the rigid fuel pipes outside the fuel tank.
Once the leakage point is found, appropriate repair measures can be taken. However, if the damaged area is large, YingTai recommends replacing the fuel pipe with a new one to ensure safe and reliable operation.
For fuel pipes that show severe aging, significant damage, or potential safety risks, timely replacement is strongly recommended to prevent equipment failure or safety accidents caused by fuel leakage.
The stable operation of diesel generator sets depends on proper installation, regular maintenance, and timely troubleshooting. YingTai Group remains committed to providing reliable, efficient, and safe power solutions for customers worldwide through advanced manufacturing capabilities and extensive project experience.
